Bitcoin is the term used to refer to in two instances. A Bitcoin (Capitalised ‘B’) is a digital asset, where as bitcoin (small caps ‘b’) refers to the dedicated blockchain that handles Bitcoin transactions. People can send Bitcoins (or part of one; ‘satoshis’) to a digital wallet, and one can send Bitcoins to other people. Every single transaction is recorded in a public ledger (digitalised storage) called the bitcoin blockchain.
